Serpenti attorno al fiume Gila
1. Re Serpente
Ci sono alcuni tipi di serpenti reali che vivono vicino a questa zona dell’Arizona. Il Kingsnake della California può essere scoperto in un’ampia varietà di ambienti. Li puoi trovare nelle foreste, nelle praterie, nelle paludi, nelle regioni aride e persino nelle periferie.
Ad eccezione dei mesi più freddi, quando fuggono sottoterra ed entrano in uno stato noto come brumazione, questi serpenti reali vengono generalmente scoperti durante le ore diurne. L’adulto medio è lungo tra 36 e 48 pollici.

2. Serpente Gopher
Uno dei serpenti più grandi dell’Arizona sono i serpenti gopher. È stato affermato che possono crescere fino a 92 pollici di lunghezza! In media, questo tipo di serpente trovato vicino al fiume Gila è lungo circa quattro piedi! Tipicamente hanno una tinta beige o crema e sono fortemente modellati sul dorso e sui fianchi con una serie di macchie marroni più piccole, dall’aspetto simile, con bordi neri.
Quando le circostanze lo permettono, possono essere vivaci sia di giorno che di notte. Sebbene preferiscano stare a terra, sono degli scalatori impressionanti e occasionalmente vengono avvistati sugli alberi.
I serpenti Gopher sibilano rumorosamente, appiattiscono la testa in una forma triangolare e agitano la coda verso gli intrusi se si sentono minacciati. Occasionalmente possono essere scambiati per un serpente a sonagli a causa di queste abitudini e caratteristiche corporee.
3. Diamondback occidentale
Il serpente a sonagli Diamondback occidentale, che vive in diversi tipi di ambienti, è il serpente che si vede più frequentemente nell’area di Phoenix. Sono i serpenti più comuni da vedere vicino al fiume Gila. In Arizona, questo tipo di serpente può crescere fino a sei piedi di lunghezza!
Come suggerisce il nome, il dorso del serpente è ornato in una varietà di forme, alcune delle quali possono assomigliare a diamanti ma più frequentemente sono ovali irregolari o rettangoli curvi. I diamanti sono solitamente definiti da un contorno bianco o crema e sono spesso più scuri rispetto al resto del colore del corpo.
Il sonaglio su un Diamondback occidentale è unico e, dato l’aspetto generale del serpente e le linee bianche e nere nettamente giustapposte della coda, altamente evidente. Il sonaglio ha spesso una tinta marrone chiaro o giallo nebuloso. I loro sonagli sono fatti di una sostanza fragile simile alle unghie umane!
4. Serpente a sonagli del Mojave
Sebbene i serpenti a sonagli del Mojave vivano tipicamente nel deserto, puoi trovarli vicino alla costa del fiume Gila. Questi serpenti amano qualsiasi area aperta e ariosa, che dà loro molto spazio per strisciare.
A seconda del suo ambiente, il serpente a sonagli del Mojave può variare di colore dal marrone al verde chiaro. Questi serpenti sono conosciuti in alcuni luoghi come “verdi del Mojave” a causa del colore verde che hanno.
Poiché trascorrono la maggior parte del loro tempo di notte nascondendosi sotto le pietre o nei tunnel di vari mammiferi, i serpenti a sonagli del Mojave non vengono avvistati comunemente.
